Crime Report: A Stabbing, Many Thefts and More Women’s Shelter Assaults

Police are looking for a man who allegedly stabbed a 53-year-old man in the upper left torso on Myrtle Avenue between Clinton and Vanderbilt Avenues on June 23 just after midnight. The victim was able to walk to Clinton Avenue near Myrtle Avenue, and then was taken to Kings County Hospital Center. Police do not have a more detailed description of the suspect, and they do not know the motive for the attack.

In addition to the crime above, 24 felonies and six arrests were reported in the precinct last week, compared to 18 felonies and eight arrests the previous week. Robberies and attempted robberies were common this week, taking place on the street, in subway stations, at the park and elsewhere. Two more assaults were reported at the Tillary Street Women’s Shelter last week, adding to the two reported the previous week, and two others reported about a month ago.

Street Assaults

-A 32-year-old man told police that he was walking on Grand Avenue at Lexington Street on June 19 at about 11 p.m. when two men hit him in the back of the head with an unknown object, knocking him to the ground. The men, both about six feet tall – one who appeared to be wearing a black T-shirt and black pants, and the other who appeared to be wearing a white T-shirt and black pants – fled east on Lexington Avenue toward Classon Avenue. The victim told police he was injured on his head and hand. Police searched the area but could not find the two men. Police are reviewing video from nearby surveillance cameras to try to identify the attackers.

-A 49-year-old man allegedly hit a 57-year-old man over the head with his metal cane on Myrtle Avenue near Carlton Avenue on June 18 at about 4 p.m. because he believed the older man took his cigarettes, according to police. The victim suffered a small cut on the left side of his head and received medical attention after being seen by Emergency Medical Services, police said.

Wilfredo Carillo, 49, was arrested and charged with assault in the second and third degrees, attempted assault in the third degree, menacing in the second and third degrees, harassment in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

Street Robberies

-On June 17 at about 7:30 p.m., two men allegedly snatched a 44-year-old woman’s phone when she was walking on Saint James Place at Lafayette Avenue on her way to the supermarket. One of the men grabbed her arm, while the other said, “Fat lady, give me the phone,” she told police.  The woman was not able to present her phone’s identification number at the time of the report, and the phone does not have a tracking device, according to police.

-Someone snatched a 14-year-old boy’s cell phone as he talked on it while walking in the Atlantic Terminal Houses on Carlton Avenue, police said. The thief fled west on Atlantic Avenue. Officers searched the area with the boy, but could not find the thief or the phone. Officers attempted to use a tracking device to find the phone, but were unsuccessful because the tracker was offline.

Attempted Robberies

-A man chased down and captured a teen who allegedly snatched a 29-year-old woman’s cellphone in the Clinton-Washington Avenues G train station on June 20 at about 6 p.m.

The man, who was not identified, pinned the youth to the ground, took back the phone and held him until police arrived and placed him under arrest. At the station house, the teen allegedly gave officers a false name, date of birth and address.

Malik Hynes, 17, was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, harassment in the second degree and false personation, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

-A 48-year-old man told police that a strange man approached him in Commodore Barry Park on June 17 at 7 p.m. and followed him southwest on Park Avenue toward North Elliott Place. The stranger then asked him for $20, hit him in the back of the head and left empty-handed, fleeing east on Park Avenue toward Cumberland Street, police said. The victim received medical attention, according to police.

Food Delivery Robbery

A 26-year-old delivery man was bringing fried chicken, a large pizza, a grilled chicken sandwich and cheese fries to a home on Downing Street near Gates Avenue on June 17 at midnight when two men allegedly punched him in the face, grabbed the food and snatched his cell phone. The man found his phone on the ground after the thieves fled the scene. Officers searched the area but could not find the men who allegedly stole the food.

Robbery and Pit Bull Attack

A 14-year-old boy told police that he was playing video games in his Ingersoll Houses apartment when a man allegedly barged in with a pit bull, ordering his dog to “sick ‘im,” while he grabbed five video games. The boy suffered dog bites on both legs and was taken to Long Island College Hospital by Emergency Medical Services. Officers found the suspect on Prince Street and arrested him. All the stolen video games were returned to the boy.

Darnell Wilson, 31, was charged with attempted assault in the third degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, menacing in the second and third degrees, harassment in the second degree, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

Women’s Shelter Assaults

-A Tillary Street Women’s Shelter resident allegedly slapped another with her hand and a pair of flip-flops on June 19 at about 9 p.m. The 61-year-old victim was sitting in a shelter lounge when the other woman allegedly slapped her on the right side of the face, grabbed the victim’s flip-flops and used them slap the left side of her face. The woman told police she felt pain on her face and heard ringing in her ears, but she refused medical treatment. The attacker fled from the shelter and was not arrested, according to police.

-Victoria Wade, 25, was arrested in connection with two separate assaults at the Tillary Street Women’s Shelter on June 20. During the first incident, at about 8:45 a.m., Wade allegedly hit a woman who she argued with the night before with an umbrella, bruising her left hand and causing pain in her arm. That night, at about 10 p.m., Wade allegedly walked into the victim’s room and repeatedly punched her in the head.

For the first incident, Wade was charged with assault in the third degree, attempted assault in the third degree, menacing in the second and third degrees, harassment in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. For the second incident, she faces charges of assault in the third degree, attempted assault in the third degree, menacing in the second and third degrees, criminal trespass in the second degree and trespass, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

Home Burglaries

-Someone stole an HP laptop and a pair of Nike Jordan sneakers from an Ingersoll Houses apartment on June 18. A woman told police that she left her hospitalized mother’s apartment at 9 a.m. that day and returned at 5 p.m. to find that the lock had been tampered with and the items were gone. She called 911 at 9:20 p.m., police said. A neighbor told police that she saw someone enter the apartment empty-handed and leave shortly after with bags in hand.

-A 61-year-old man told police he noticed that his Sony video camera and PortaBrace camera bag were missing from the first floor closet of his apartment on South Portland Avenue near DeKalb Avenue on June 1 – two weeks after he hosted a party there. At the time of the report, the man could not provide the serial number for his belongings, worth a total of $4,250, police said. He reported the burglary on June 17.

Stolen Cars

-A 64-year-old woman told police she parked her car on Greene Avenue at Grand Avenue on June 17 at about 7 p.m., but when she returned to move the car two days later at 9 p.m., it was gone.

-A 34-year-old man told police he had parked his car on Clinton Avenue at Lafayette Avenue on June 21 at 10 a.m., but when he returned at 4 p.m., it was gone. There wasn’t any shattered glass at the location, police said. Police searched the area but could not find the car.

Thefts from Cars and Trucks

-A 47-year-old woman told police that she parked her car on DeKalb Avenue at Ashland Place on June 17 at 2 p.m., and when she returned on June 20 at 1:45 p.m., the rear driver’s side window was broken and diamond bangle bracelets, two sets of earrings, clothing and one pair of glasses and prescriptions – worth a total of $10,250 – were missing from inside.

-A New York City Department of Transportation employee told police that he parked a department vehicle on Classon Avenue between Madison Avenue and Putnam Avenues at 6 p.m. on June 20, and when he returned the following day at 7 a.m., a Verizon wireless router, worth $100, was gone from inside, police said.

-A man told police that he was making a mattress delivery on Putnam Avenue and Irving Place on June 20 at 8:30 a.m. when he saw a man enter his truck through the front driver’s side door and steal an envelope containing $180 in cash. The man said the thief was wearing a navy blue T-shirt and dark jeans.

Theft at Supermarket

A 47-year-old man told police someone stole his wallet off the counter at Pioneer Supermarket on Lafayette Avenue near Grand Avenue on June 18 around 2 p.m. He said he placed the wallet on the counter while paying the cashier and then realized it was gone. He later found out someone made unauthorized purchases totaling $1,075 using the debit card.

Theft at the Bar

A 28-year-old woman told police that someone stole her black and white purse from a chair inside Mo’s Fort Greene, a bar on Lafayette Avenue near South Portland Avenue, on the evening of June 21. The purse contained an iPhone 4, a New York State identification card, a Chase debit card and a MetroCard, police said. The woman told police she had a tracking device on her phone, but since her phone was turned off, it could not be tracked. She said she would provide her phone’s identification number at a later date. When an officer attempted to call back to find out the woman’s debit card numbers, she did not pick up, police said.

Domestic Disputes

-Patric Anderson, 20, was arrested after he allegedly choked and punched the mother of his child on Myrtle Avenue between Carlton Avenue and Adelphi Street on June 19 at about 4 p.m. The mother, 32, told police Anderson threatened her by saying, “I should kill you,” choked her and then punched her in the head and pushed her around. Although the woman told police that she has pain in her neck, she refused medical treatment. Officers did not notice any visible injuries.

Anderson was charged with assault in the third degree, attempted assault in the third degree, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, menacing in the third degree and harassment in the second degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

-Destiny Jackson, 18, was arrested after she allegedly threw bleach in her boyfriend’s face and scratched his arms and neck inside an apartment on Fulton Street between Carlton Avenue and Adelphi Street on June 20 at about 4 p.m., police said. Her boyfriend suffered redness on his right eye and redness and abrasions on his neck and right arm, according to police.

Jackson was charged with assault in the third degree, attempted assault in the third degree, menacing in the second and third degrees, harassment in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

-A 33-year-old woman told police that her boyfriend choked her inside their Ingersoll Houses apartment on June 22 at about midnight. The woman refused medical aid at the scene, police said. The boyfriend was not arrested, according to police.
