Crime Blotter: Bensonhurst And Bay Ridge Drug Rings Busted, Teen Beat Up In Coney Station
The police were very busy this month busting drug rings. Criminals were also busy causing more ruckus. Here’s a few of the bigger crime stories from the 60th, 62nd, and 68th Precincts:
An empty subway platform is no excuse for a fight
On Tuesday night, a 16-year-old boy was in the West 8 Street F station when no less than 10 kids chased him down, punched and kicked him, and tried to steal the victims headphones, police reported. The boy was able to run away from the group — which consisted of seven black boys, two white boys, and a Hispanic girl, all in their teens — before they caught up to him again, punched and kicked him again, stole his cell phone, before running out of the station.
An unsanitary encounter
In the early afternoon on Friday, December 2, city employee Samuel Gonzalez, a worker at the Department of Sanitation, was allegedly obstructing eastbound traffic on 72nd Street. A 32-year-old woman in the car behind Gonzalez honked at him. The woman’s father than exited the vehicle in order to “pick up someone”, according to police, which Gonzalez interpreted as aggression. Gonzalez exited his car as well and punched the woman’s father in the face, causing him to fall back and suffer a laceration to the back of his head, rendering him semi-conscious.
“The other guy, he thought he was being tough,” the police told us on the phone. The victim was transported to Lutheran Hospital.
Dead man found in Bay Ridge
A 59-year-old man was discovered unconscious and unresponsive on 64th Street on Wednesday, December 7, according to the police. EMS pronounced him deceased on the scene.
Police are withholding the man’s identity until they contact the family.
