Councilman Williams Invites The Community To This Sunday’s Breast Cancer & Domestic Violence Awareness Month Kickoff

Councilman Jumaane Williams is inviting the community to the third annual Girls Like Us Survive: Breast Cancer & Domestic Violence Awareness Month kickoff this Sunday, October 12, at Cocoa Mane (1185 Rogers Avenue). The event, which will be held from 5pm to 7:30pm, will be co-hosted by actress and philanthropist Tiffany Jones, state Senator Kevin Parker, and District Leader (and Democratic candidate for the 42nd Assembly District) Rodneyse Bichotte.

The evening will include guest speakers who will address breast cancer and domestic violence, refreshments, a DJ, and more.

Jones, who will speak during the event, is a cast member from OWN Network’s Love In The City and is the founder of Pink Chose Me, an organization she started to raise breast cancer awareness throughout the country after battling the disease herself.

Others who will be speaking include:

• Jacqueline Rowe, the sister of professional boxer Mike Tyson founder of the Face My Abuse. Rowe will discuss domestic violence, red flags men and women should look out for, and how to survive.
• Representatives from The Maurer Foundation, an organization the provides education about early detection of breast cancer.
• Jacqueline Carr-Peck, a nutritionist from Fitness For Flatbush, who will provide food demonstrations on how to cook nutritious meals aimed at preventing disease.
