City Councilman Chaim Deutsch visited James Madison High School to wish one of the school’s teams good luck. No, it wasn’t the basketball or football team – it’s one that competes using their grey matter. James Madison’s star team is made up of law program students who debate other teams over current events using the wisdom of the American Constitution in an event called “We the People”.

The team is made up of the most successful students in Madison’s much-acclaimed law house. Madison’s law house students recently won the city championship “We the People” event – where they compete with other teams on their ability to articulate their knowledge of the Constitution and its relevance to current events and modern politics – and over the weekend they debated with teams across New York for state championships.

The team came in second place during the Albany competition, just behind Forest Hills High school team in Queens.

James Madison High School’s Principal Jodie Cohen welcomed Councilman Deutsch and they both congratulated the students on their hard work.

Way to go, Madison students!
