Council Member Brad Lander is urging community members to support the proposed installation of 15 speed humps throughout Windsor Terrace.

The humps, which were initially announced by the Department of Transportation at the end of July, stirred up heated debate at a public meeting in August. Some residents worried about noise and hindering emergency vehicles, while others were adamant that something needed to be done to protect children in the area.

Resident Mary Jane Monahan, whose son was killed by a drunk driver on 19th Street in 2002, spoke in favor of putting in speed humps at the meeting.

“I don’t think there’s a perfect solution, but deterrents are necessary, speed humps are necessary,” she said.

Council Member Lander is in favor of installing speed humps in the area and has started a petition for community members to show their support to Community Board 7, which has to approve the plan before DOT can install any speed humps.

If you support installing speed humps in Windsor Terrace, you can sign the petition here.
