Cops are looking to identify the man pictured here, who they say withdrew $1,000 from a 34-year-old woman’s bank account without permission at a Brighton Beach ATM.

According to authorities, the man waited in line behind his victim at Bank of America at 501 Brighton Beach Avenue on November 24, at approximately 6pm. He peered over her shoulder as she entered her pin, and when she left she failed to terminate the session. That allowed him to reenter her pin and withdraw the funds.

The suspect is described as a white male, wearing a dark coat and a dark hat.

As a reminder to readers, always make sure to exit your session when finished using an ATM. Also be aware for shady looking characters standing in the vestibule area, and use the ATM’s mirrors to look behind you and see if a person is watching you enter your pin number. On a related note, give the card reader a tug to ensure no skimming devices have been installed, and never leave your receipt behind. Here’s a number of other identity theft prevention measures you can take to keep your money yours.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website, or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and entering TIP577.
