Police are after a man who snatched a straphanger’s iPhone from a subway in our area last week.

On Tuesday, March 24 at just after 8am, police say that as a 3 train was entering the Grand Army Plaza subway station, a teen shoved a 48-year-old woman, grabbing her phone before heading off the train to parts unknown — and then, apparently snapped a selfie that was retrieved by a security app on the phone.

The suspect is described as a black man around 16 years old and about 5’5″ tall who was last seen wearing a red bubble jacket, a gray hooded sweatshirt, and dark colored pants.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s crime stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). You can also submit tips by logging onto the crime stoppers website or by texting tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577. Police say all calls are confidential.
