A dispute between two men at the Red Hook Houses West at 80 Dwight Street escalated into a gun battle around 10pm on Friday night, according to NYPD.

Both men were armed and one was shot in the leg, police say.

The wounded, a 28-year-old black male, was taken to Methodist Hospital where he is expected to recover.

The shooter, a 19-year-old hispanic male, fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended in the vicinity, police report. A firearm was also recovered at the scene.

It is unclear whether the men live at the Red Hook Houses.

District 38 Council Member Carlos Menchaca was on the scene Friday night and posted a video to his Facebook page (see above). In the footage he confirms there was a shooting and that a perpetrator was apprehended. He also reassures locals that police are investigating the incident.
