Police identified the man found on the shore near Kingsborough Community College as a 28-year-old convicted felon with money troubles, the Daily News reports.

Peter Martinez, who reportedly had been arrested 31 times and given a two-year prison sentence for identity theft, was found Monday morning with his feet sunk in cement-filled buckets and his body wrapped in a plastic bag. His girlfriend told investigators he “owed a lot of money” before he was reported missing on February 3, according to the Daily News.

Martinez has also been tied to an infamous Brooklyn gang. DNAinfo reports he was affiliated with the G Stone Crips, a gang associated with the East Flatbush rapper Bobby Shmurda.

Police identified the body, found on the rocks by a Kingsborough student, through the Virgin Mary and 8-ball tattoos on his body, according to DNAinfo. He also had a gunshot wound on his leg from a previous incident.

The Daily News reports Martinez had not been shot or stabbed. However, police have not revealed the cause of death.
