Cool Park Slope Treats For The Summer Heat
The summer heat is here and if you are looking for a sweet treat to help you cool down, have we got the roundup for you. Here are some of our favorite places to grab a cold snack in the 90 degree heat!
SkyIce
63 5th Avenue
This northern Thai spot on 5th Avenue and St. Mark’s Place has more than a few interesting flavors for you to try. The Black Sesame Seaweed ice cream has been touted by Serious Eats and others, but they also have plenty of fresh fruit sorbets, including Mango, Lychee Rose, and Cucumber Lime. A scoop will cost you $3.25.
Ample Hills Creamery
305 Nevins Street
Ample Hills Creamery opened its 3,600-square-foot spot in Gowanus last July and with 24 different flavors of ice cream and sorbet, and boy are we glad they did. Try a scoop of It Came From Gowanus or Salted Crack Caramel and enjoy your dessert on the beautiful roof deck. Scoops start at $3.
Culture
331 5th Avenue
If you’re looking for some frozen yogurt, Culture is the place to go. In addition to their wonderful Greek-style yogurt, they have tasty frozen varieties. All of their yogurt is made with antibiotic- and hormone-free milk from an upstate dairy and strained in the store and flavors change daily. We especially love all of the toppings available.
L’Albero dei Gelati
341 5th Avenue
If it’s gelato you are craving, get your fix at L’Albero dei Gelati, They’ve got all the tasty traditional Italian flavors, including pistachio, straciatella, chocolate hazelnut, as well as some savory flavors like bell pepper and blue cheese. They also have vegan gelato, for those that stay away from dairy products. Grab it to go from their window on 5th Avenue or head to their beautiful backyard and have a panini or glass of wine with your dessert. A small cup is $4.50 and the window is open until 11pm.
People’s Pops
808B Union Street
Want to skip the dairy? Grab a handmade popsicle or shave ice from People’s Pops, which started as a stand at The Brooklyn Flea in 2008. The shop on Union Street makes all of their treats with fresh fruits straight from the farmers’ market. Their inventive flavor combinations, such as cantaloupe mint, strawberry chocolate, and rhubarb-cardamom, are worth a stop. Pops are $3.50 and shave ice is $2.50.
Corner of Vermont
374 5th Avenue
This little shop on 5th Avenue serves up one of our new favorite summer treats: the Vermont Maple Cremee, a mix of soft-serve ice cream and maple sugar served in a cup or waffle cone. This is one of the only places to grab the New England treat and they use a recipe from Kingdom Creamery, a family owned dairy and maple farm that has been around since 1954. The sweet dish starts at $3.
