The weekend is finally here, and we’d like to help you have a great one blocks from your home. Whether you’re looking to picnic with neighbors, catch some Brooklyn history, or dance to live Afrobeat — this is your spot for the hottest weekend events in (and around) Ditmas Park. All Weekend:

Back to School Sidewalk Sale
When: This Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 7pm.
Where: Church Avenue and Flatbush Avenue.
What: Dare we say it’s back to school time already? Stay ahead of the game with discounts on school uniforms and fall fashions, notebooks and more supplies. Flatbush Avenue stores like Carters (1004 Flatbush Avenue) and Cookies (982 Flatbush Avenue) are well stocked and running discounts all weekend long, thanks to the Flatbush Avenue BID.
How Much: items individually priced.

Pop-Up Audubon Fishing Clinic and more free events at the park
When: Saturday and Sunday, August 27 and 28, sessions start at 1pm and 3pm.
Where: Prospect Park, multiple locations. Fishing is on the peninsula near the lake.
What: Learn all the fishing basics: aquatic ecology, fishing safety, how to use a cane pole and collect your own bait. Also check out the tons of other outdoor events at the park this weekend including nature exploration (Saturday, 10am to 1pm); Free rowing on the lake (Saturday 12pm to 4pm); and Woodland Corps (Saturday 10am to 2pm).

Live music at Bar Chord
When: Friday, August 26 at 10pm.
Where: Bar Chord, 1003 Cortelyou Road between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road.
What: The Illegal Mezcal Music Series returns to Bar Chord with The Saturators, 6-piece band featuring musicians based out of Brooklyn and Harlem. The band will play an improvised mix of dancehall, reggae, funk, hip-hop and afrobeat.
How Much: Free show, but don’t forget to get drinks at the bar and tip the musicians.

Live music at The Owl Music Parlor
When: Friday, August 26 at 8pm (doors at 7:30pm).
Where: The Owl Music Parlor, 497 Rogers Avenue between Midwood and Maple Streets.
What: Levon Henry and friends host an ultra-diverse program of performances.
How Much: $10 suggested donation.

Flatbush Tenant Coatlition Cookout in Prospect Park
When: Saturday, August 27 from 11am to 3pm.
Where: Parkside Lawn, near Parkside Avenue between St. Paul’s Pl and Parade Place, across from the old Caledonia Hospital.
What: Tenant leaders work hard all year long for safe and affordable housing, now it’s time to kick back and celebrate together. Amazing food, games, raffles and great company abound. Bring a dish or drink to share, a blanket, along with family and friends.
How Much: Free

Summer Comedy Series: Cold-Pressed Comedy
When: Saturday, August 27 at 8pm (doors at 7pm).
Where: House of Juice, 642 Rogers Avenue between Parkside and Clarkson Avenues.
What: A fresh take on comedy by Brooklyn locals, hosted by Eugene T. Barnes and featuring Aminah Imani, Jourdain Fisher, Jesse Eigner, Marc T. Engberg and Dr. Rocco.
How Much: $20 in advance or $25 at the door, includes one full-sized beverage or a drink flight and tapas.

Flatbush Food Court at Sycamore Bar
When: Saturday, August 27 from 6pm to 11pm.
Where: Sycamore Bar, 1118 Cortelyou Road between Westminster Road and Stratford Road.
What: Cool off and indulge your sweet tooth tonight with locally made Brooklyn Bell ice cream served in the backyard garden.
How Much: Priced per item.

Church Avenue Bangladeshi Street Fair
When: Sunday, August 28 from 12pm to 7pm.
Where: McDonald Avenue and Church Avenue.
What: Join the Church-McDonald Bangladeshi Business Association for their 11th annual Potho Mela summer street fair, featuring musicians, singers, dancers, and vendors selling food, jewelry, clothing, crafts and more.
How Much: Free, all are welcome.

Battle of Brooklyn 240th Anniversary Celebration
When: Sunday, August 28 from 12pm to 4pm.
Where: Green-Wood Cemetery, inside the main gate at 25th Street and 5th Avenue.
What: Commemorate the 240th anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn with a free day of living history, including American and British troop re-enactors, Revolutionary War-era music and cooking, a flag parade, artillery demonstrations and more. Check out more anniversary events happening all over Brooklyn this weekend.
How Much: Free, but limited space for some events so register here.

Harvest Fest Back to School Celebration from Senator Kevin Parker
When: Sunday, August 28 from 12pm to 5pm.
Where: Paerdegat Park, East 40th Street near Farragut Road and Albany Avenue.
What: Come out for free backpacks and school supplies for the children in attendance, fun raffles, food, face painting and more. For additional information, call Senator Kevin Parker’s office at 718-629-6401.
