A construction worker was killed on Tuesday afternoon when steel beams fell on him as he worked on the new green roof at the Barlcays Center.

The unidentified ironworker was a member of a team installing the new roof (which is supposed to beatify and soundproof the arena), part of a Massachusetts steel company contracted by Hunt Construction Group, according to the Brooklyn Paper. DNAinfo notes that the man was helping unload the beams when several of them fell on him.

The FDNY reports they responded at about 1:30pm and transported the 52-year-old man, who was in critical condition, to Brooklyn Hospital, where he later died.

Our thoughts go out to the man’s family, friends, and coworkers.
