Construction At 441 Myrtle, Plus An Update For Mark’s Gourmet

We noticed scaffolding up last week at 441 Myrtle Avenue (at Waverly Avenue), the former home of Mark’s Gourmet Burgers before its closure in early July. We checked in with Chad Purkey at the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, who explained some changes are in store for the corner spot.

“We spoke with the property owner last week and he’s doing some façade restoration work, as well as renovating the upper-floor residential units,” Chad told us. “The commercial space does not have a tenant yet, and although it is still on the market, the property owner is looking to lease the space after the work is completed.”

Chad says the owner of 441 is in no rush; he’ll be taking his time with renovations and leasing. Department of Buildings records convey as much, as the only permit filed this year is for a sidewalk shed–no specifics yet on what comes after. There is a partial stop work order on the site from January, however, indicating that structural improvements may be part of the plan.

As for Chef Mark Charles of Mark’s Gourmet Burgers (who confirmed his restaurant’s closing on July 29), you can follow him on his new Facebook page–simply Mark’s Gourmet–and keep up with his pop-up food events around the area.
