Congratulations To Neighbor Nathan Thompson, Who Will Be Honored As ‘Community Activist Of The Year’ This Thursday
It’s almost impossible to say just how many hats Prospect Park South neighbor Nathan Thompson wears in our community — suffice to say, it’s a whole lot.
From helping to wipe graffiti and trash from our neighborhood to serving on the 70th Precinct Community Council and performing his magic at a Thanksgiving meal for our less fortunate neighbors, Nathan is one incredible tour-de-force.
We were happy to learn that Nathan’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, and he is being honored as “Community Activist of the Year” by the Brooklyn Independent Democrats this Thursday, June 11.
Anyone is welcome to join Thursday’s event, which will run from 7-10pm at the home of Judge Alice Fisher Rubin and Lowell Rubin (141 Argyle Road, between Albemarle and Beverley Roads). You may purchase tickets the night of the event for $100, $250 or $500, depending on the level of sponsorship you’d like to contribute.
For more information about the event, please call 718-676-5289 or 347-351-3660.
Also being honored during the event are: Ingrid Martin, senior advisor to Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, as “Woman of the Year;” Michael McGuire, political director of the Mason Tenders District Council, as “Labor Leader of the Year;” Andrew Fisher, past president of the Brooklyn Bar Association and former chairman of the Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation, as “Attorney of the Year;” and Dovi Zeitlin, a community advocate who’s also part of the 70th Precinct Community Council, with a special Annette Mont Public Service Award.
Nathan and his wife, Eva Lewandowski, moved to Prospect Park South in 1997 and now live there with their two children, Sofia and Alex. Since moving here, he has become a member of the 70th Precinct Community Council, joined the Prospect Park South Association Board of Directors, performed numerous magic shows for various community events — including the recent annual cleanup day, and donated his time to get the MTA to modernize the Church Avenue B/Q subway station. Plus, we’ve been fortunate enough to have Nathan contribute to Ditmas Park Corner!
When he’s not tackling issues around the neighborhood, Nathan spends his time as an award-winning Creative Content Manager and editor at McCann-Erickson Worldwide — where he’s been for almost 25 years. There, he has edited both documentary works and television commercials, with his work garnering him four ANDY awards for excellence in advertising.
Because of his interest in both politics and community work, McCann-Erickson often gives him assignments in these areas. In 2002, for example, Nathan worked on a project for then-Secretary of State Colin Powell on a mini-series on Muslims in America, which was shown across the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Plus, Nathan has worked with Swedish royalty to create a piece about the World Childhood Foundation. He also worked with First Lady Michelle Obama’s anti-obesity campaign and with the National Organization of Women for a piece shown during the Super Bowl Week about human trafficking.
A big congratulations to Nathan!
