UPDATE: Due to inclement weather (it’s going to get down to the teens tonight) the event has been cancelled. There is not yet a rain date but we’ll keep you posted.

In what officials plan to make an annual tradition, Coney Island’s “Ceremonial Christmas Tree” the Parachute Jump will be lit up tonight in celebration of the holiday season.

In attendance will be the Alliance for Coney Island, Luna Park, Councilman Mark Treyger, State Senator Diane Savino, Assemblymember Pamela Harris, and Community Board 13. A few words will be made before the lighting.

The event will take place at 4:45 p.m. in front of the Jump, on the part of the boardwalk known as Steeplechase Plaza. (It’s West 19th Street and the Boardwalk, if you need to plug an address into your GPS.)

All are invited, and the event is free to the public.
