Coney Island’s 60th Precinct Takes On Mannequin Challenge, Goes Viral

Southern Brooklyn’s Mannequin Challenge game is on point. The 60th Precinct — representing Coney Island and Brighton Beach — officially joined the ranks of Challenge royalty this weekend after posting their take on the viral phenomenon to Twitter. (For those not in the know: the Mannequin Challenge is an internet trend where people are videotaped frozen in place typically with Rae Sremmurd’s song “Black Beatles” as a soundtrack.)

The 60th’s Challenge video, set to The Collapsable Heart Club’s peppy single “Easy Street“, takes viewers on a tour of the station house. Highlights include an officer wearing a dog head, with a chain around his neck, two female officers arresting a man who is, in fact, a cop, an officer at the Precinct laughingly confirmed, and firefighters helping a cop who appears to have badly burned some cookies.

The 61st Precinct, representing Sheepshead Bay, Gravesend, Manhattan Beach and Gerritsen Beach, also produced a Mannequin Challenge this month, but their take hasn’t experienced nearly the same level of fame as the 60th’s. Ironically, they were the ones who challenged the 60th to take a go at the Challenge in the first place!

The students and teachers over at Seth Low made an adorable version of the Challenge this month during a school visit from New York Islanders Ryan Pulock and Anders Lee.

And of course, The Belt Parkway performs the Mannequin Challenge on a daily basis, often for hours at a time.
