Coney Island Woman Fatally Stabbed In West 37th Street Apartment
A Coney Island woman was found stabbed to death in her basement apartment on West 37th Street Saturday, cops said.
Responding to a 911 call, officers found Victoria Hammond, 58, unconscious on the living room floor at 9:35pm. She had stab wounds to her torso and a cut on her forehead, according to police. EMS arrived and declared her DOA.
The New York Daily News spoke to two of Hammond’s four sons, who were horrified by the murder:
“Why did someone have to stab her?” said Dartaguan Hammond, 37. “Why?”
“If you liked her, you liked her,” said Derrick Hammond, 38. “If you didn’t like her, you still liked her ’cause she had no dislike for you.
“This is uncalled for,” he added. “We’re gonna get to the bottom of this.”
Neighbors told the New York Daily News they were not surprised by bloodshed, because the neighborhood is not safe, and they often heard yelling outside.
The incident has been ruled a homicide and an investigation is ongoing, cops said. No arrests have been made.
