Coney Island Woman Fatally Stabbed In Fight With Neighbor
CONEY ISLAND – A 31-year-old Coney Island woman was stabbed to death in the hallway of her building during a fight with a neighbor last night.
At approximately 9:30pm on Wednesday, October 11, police responded to a 911 call on Surf Avenue near West 20th Street. When they arrived, officers discovered Shymeka Tart with a stab wound to her chest, the NYPD says.
EMS transported Tart to Coney Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A 40-year-old woman at the scene was taken into custody, according to police. Charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
Tart lived in the building with her teenage son and two younger children, a neighbor told the New York Daily News. Tart and the suspect had been embroiled in a longtime feud, the newspaper reports.
