Coney Island Summer: Astro Tower, Parties, Events

CONEY ISLAND – Memorial Day Weekend marks the official start of the summer at Coney Island. The rides and attractions will be open every day of the week, and late into the evenings.

This year there is a new ride – the “Astro Tower”. Inspired by the Coney Island icon, the 137’4 foot tower offers spectacular views and “provides thrill seekers with a mind-boggling experience filled with drastic free-fall drops and rotation”, Luna Park promises.

Astro Tower is located next to Endeavor and across from Thunderbolt at West 15th Street and Boardwalk and opens to the public tomorrow, Saturday, May 26th.

Friday night fireworks will start  on June 22nd, and will continue for 10 weeks. Also – don’t miss July 4th Fireworks Spectacular. Flicks on the Beach series will be back as well, and mark your calendars for the Coney Island Music Festival on August 4th.

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 26th, the Ford Amphitheater will opens its doors for the season with the Grits & Biscuits Block Party.  Their summer line-up includes Primus, Big Daddy Kane, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and the Beach Boys.

Brooklyn Cyclones season opener will be against the Staten Island Yankees on June 16th (tickets on sale now starting at $10).

And then – on June 30th – the New York Aquarium will open a 57,000 square foot exhibit Ocean Wonders: Sharks!

Enjoy the weekend, and we’ll keep you posted throughout the summer!
