Elementary students were evacuated from a Coney Island school early this morning following a bomb scare.

Someone called P.S. 288, located 2950 West 25th Street, at 7:43am and threatened to blow up the school before hanging up, according to police.

Students were taken to a nearby school two blocks away until the police canvassed the building and determined that there were no explosives. Police said they believe the call made by an employee at the school who was in a domestic dispute with another employee – the one who received the phone call.

Students were returned to their classrooms by 10am.

Councilman Treyger praised local police for their professional response on his Facebook page:

I appreciate the swift response of the 60th pct to PS 288 this morning after an unsubstantiated bomb threat was made. I spoke to the 60th Precinct and will be in touch throughout the day. Kudos to the school faculty for an orderly evacuation to ensure the safety of all staff and children. My office will closely monitor this matter and be in touch with NYPD and DOE officials as well as parents/guardians.

There were no reported injuries, police say.
