Coney Island Murder Victim Linked To ‘Dirty Cash’ Gang, Killing Could Be Retribution
The 37-year-old man who was found behind a Coney Island housing project Sunday with a gunshot wound to the head has been linked to a local gang and his murder could be retribution for another killing the day before, police sources told the Daily News.
Cops have yet to formally identify the murder victim, whose body was discovered outside the Surfside Gardens Houses on West 33rd Street after police received a call about a shooting at 9:17pm. However, unnamed sources in law enforcement told the Daily News that the man is a member of the “Dirty Cash” gang and has a prolific criminal record with 23 prior arrests.
Investigators are looking into whether the shooting was retaliation for the murder of 25-year-old Shameek Miller, who was shot head at an apartment in East New York on Saturday, according to the Daily News.
Miller was reportedly a high-ranking member of the Gorilla Stone Bloods, a faction of the Bloods that operates in Coney Island and Gravesend. He had 32 prior arrests and served 14 months in an upstate prison for two attempted robbery charges.
Security cameras captured him entering an apartment building at 3:15am while holding a gun. Minutes later, he stumbled out of the building, still clutching the weapon and collapsed on the sidewalk. Police later followed Miller’s blood trail back to a second-floor apartment where they discovered a large cache of marijuana, the Daily News reports.
