Coney Island Hospital’s Farmers Market Kicks Off Season – Fresh, Local Foods Available Every Wednesday And Friday!

The Ocean Parkway Farmers Market in front of Coney Island Hospital returns to the streets today, offering fresh produce, baked goods and other treats made or grown at local farms.

The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and Coney Island Hospital have been hosting the farmers market, located on the pedestrian mall at 2601 Ocean Parkway, since 2010.

The market offers affordable, regionally-grown veggies, fruits, juices and flowers, as well as baked goods, and it’s the only farmers market in the Sheepshead Bay area. It’s a partnership with Harvest Home, which has a list of the more than 60 products that can be found here.

Making it even more accessible is that shoppers can pay for goods using EBT/SNAP, Health Bucks, Green Checks, Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) coupons.

The hospital says bringing farmers markets like this one to the community is part of their mission to keep neighbors healthy. Throughout the season, there will be on-site cooking and nutrition demonstration, information on healthy recipe and eating tips, as well as materials that explain how fruits and vegetables can help prevent or control obesity and chronic disease.

The market will be open every Wednesday and Friday except July 3, between 8am and 4pm. The season begins today and ends November 25. The hospital and market is located on Ocean Parkway between Avenue Z and Shore Parkway.
