Have Concerns About The Community? Here Are Two Meetings You Can Go To Next Week
Following the fifth armed robbery in our community since the end of October, a number of neighbors have asked us what they can do to address the issue of crime in our neighborhood.
There are two meetings next week at which the public is invited to attend and air thoughts or concerns, as well as meet one-on-one with legislators, civic leaders and police.
- Community Board 14 will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, December 8 at 7:30pm at PS 249 (Marlborough Road and Caton Avenue). In addition to members of the public being able to speak about specific concerns, the meeting will also include a report on revitalizing the Flatbush Junction. At last month’s CB 14 meeting, it was reported that the Flatbush Nostrand Junction Business Improvement District unexpectedly lost its director this summer, but that the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce was helping the group as they search for a new director. There will also be reports on transportation, public safety, community environment, youth services, and more.
- The 70th Precinct Community Council will meet Wednesday, December 10 at 7:30pm at 175 Lawrence Avenue. There, police and other community leaders, often including legislators, are able to address community concerns about crime. At last month’s meeting, there was a large turnout of neighbors in response to the series of armed robberies in our area. This Wednesday, December 3, two men robbed a Coney Island jewelry store at gunpoint and got away with a quarter of a million dollars in merchandise. The crime follows other armed robberies at Lark Café, Ox Cart Tavern, Mimi’s Hummus, and the Stratford Deli.
Are you planning on attending one of the meetings? If so, what are you hoping will be addressed?
