Compost for Brooklyn in the News

The Daily News writes up a lovely profile of Compost for Brooklyn on Newkirk @8th street. From their conversation with Louise Bruce, founder of the place:

Bruce first spotted the abandoned concrete patch littered with garbage while walking her fox terrier dog Olive past it in 2010.
After extensive research, she discovered the spot was owned by a Park Slop doctor, who wants to remain anonymous, and set up a meeting.
“I was so nervous,” she recalled, noting the challenges of explaining how composting works.
The busy doctor did not seem excited but perked up when she mentioned how the site would also attract children from the neighborhood, who could help maintain the garden and transfer the maturing compost piles from bin to bin.
He gave her permission to convert the land into a garden refuge with six large compost bins largely filled with wood chips–free of charge for three years.

Thank you, Louise, and Thank you, Anonymous Park Slope Doctor, for creating a wonderful community space in the neighborhood.
