Complete 1,000 Punches During CAE Punch-A-Thon Fundraiser
The 9th annual Punch-a-thon from the Center for Anti-Violence Education is coming up this Sunday, June 1 at 11am in the Nethermead in Prospect Park. The fundraiser is their version of a walkathon, where participants of all ages learn martial arts punching and basic self-defense techniques from trained instructors, then come together to complete 1,000 punches to represent communal strength and solidarity. Each set of 100 punches is dedicated to ending a different form of violence.
There’s also a raffle, face painting for the kids and the young at heart, and demos from teen participants and adult karate students.
Adults age 19 and up are encouraged to pay the suggested registration fee of $20 to participate — or, anyone can sponsor a participant — online here. All proceeds from the event support violence prevention programs for at-risk youth and adult survivors of violence.
