This spring, there are wonderful cultural events happening at many of our local schools — and everyone is welcome, whether you have school-age children or not. Here are just two events this week.

Outdoor Concert Series at PS 217
Every spring, PS 217 presents concerts in their garden that are free and open to the entire community. This year’s concert series is taking place on Wednesday evenings, from 6 to 7pm.

Come out for the first concert of the season — Calpulli Danza Mexicana — this Wednesday, May 11th. The show will celebrate Mexican culture through performance and interactive engagement, and honors Mexico’s past and immigrant life in the U.S.

PS 217 is located at 1100 Newkirk Avenue (and Westminster Road). Pack a blanket and picnic dinner, and enjoy the music, dancers and Mexican-themed refreshments as you socialize with your neighbors.

Year-End Art Show at PS 249
This Thursday, come out and show your support for some of our neighborhood’s youngest artists!

Students at PS 249 (18 Marlborough Road, between Church and Caton Avenues) will display their fabulous artwork at the school’s annual end-of-the-year art show on Thursday, May 12, from 5 to 7pm.

The show is free and open to all.

Festivities will include refreshments, prizes, and more.
