While the neighborhood is gearing up for Halloween weekend, there are plenty of events to enjoy before the night of mischief and mayhem. Whether you’re looking for a futuristic art exhibit, a political philosophy debate or just a night of live music — this is your spot for the best events in (and immediately around) Ditmas Park. “Superheroes and the 45th US President” art exhibit
When: Through Sunday, October 30th from 11am to 7pm.
Where: Best Buy Art Gallery, 515 Church Avenue between East 5th Street and Ocean Parkway.
What: Check out this quirky art exhibit before it goes national, featuring 73 paintings from the life of Hillary Clinton, 30 paintings of superheroes, 25 paintings of the 45th President and world leaders in the appearance of superheroes, 25 paintings of cats & dogs as superheroes. Our Neighborhood Comedy show
When: Monday, October 24 at 9pm.
Where: Bar Chord, 1008 Cortelyou Road, between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road.
What: There’s nothing like laughter on a Monday night to start the week off right, especially with established and up-and-coming acts from all over the perform in our own backyard bar. This monthly comedy show is hosted by Brandon Scott Wolf (of SNL Weekend Update and CollegeHumor Live), featuring Douglas Widick, Mamoudou N’Diaye, Lauren Vino, Usama Siddiquee, Cate Weinberg & more.
How Much: Free comedy show, but life is funnier after some drinks.

Fiction of the 21st-century book club
When: Tuesday, October 25 at 6:15pm
Where: Cortelyou Public Library, 1305 Cortelyou Road at Argyle Road.

Author discussion on political philosophy at BYPL
When:Tuesday, October 25 at 7pm.
Where: The Brooklyn Public Library’s Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza.
What: Join authors Amy Baehr and Daniel Shapiro for a debate and discussion of political philosophy questions facing the nation in 2016. Topics will include mass incarceration, wealth and inequality, gender in the economy, and free speech. For more info, visit Brooklyn Public Philosophers.

Green-Wood’s Historic Trolley Tour
When: Wednesday, October 26 from 1pm to 3pm
Where: Green-Wood Cemetery,
What: Experience ‘The Far Side of Green-Wood’; in the 478 acre cemetery. Join expert tour guides to hear stories of Green-Wood’s permanent residents, see breathtaking views of Manhattan, and tread where George Washington and his troops fought the Battle of Brooklyn.
How Much: $10 for members of Green-Wood, $15 for non-members. Tickets are selling out fast for Halloween week – so book your ticket in advance!

70th Precinct community council meeting
When: Wednesday, October 26 at 7:30pm
Where: PS 249, 18 Marlborough Road at Caton Avenue.
What: Voice your concerns about neighborhood crime or other issues at the monthly 70th Precinct Community Council meeting. The regular meeting is usually held at 154 Lawrence Avenue but will travel to the precinct’s northern end for October.
How Much: Free

The Many Faces of the Brooklyn Entrepreneur
When: Thursday, October 27 from 9am to 12pm.
Where: The Occidental Room at Brooklyn College, 2705 Campus Road.
What: Join Brooklyn entrepreneurs and business leaders, and the Flatbush Avenue BID for a morning of networking, learning, inspiration and effective business strategies, in the form of workshops, panel discussions and more.

Halloween cookie decorating workshop
When: Thursday, October 27 from 3pm to 5pm.
Where: Kettle & Thread, 1219 Church Avenue between Argyle and Westminster Roads.
What: Trying to up your Halloween sweets game this year? Decorate sugar cookies in the festive shapes of pumpkins, bats, and ghouls with a fabulous cache of sprinkles and cookie decor. Live music at the Owl Music Parlor
When: Thursday, October 27 at 8pm (doors at 7:30).
Where: The Owl Music Parlor, 497 Rogers Avenue between Midwood and Maple Streets.
What: Check out Sparkler, the newest band from saxophonist, pianist & composer Peter Apfelbaum; and Gown of Entry, a spoken-word, piano, and percussion band from New England Conservatory grads.
How Much: $10 suggested donation.
