Monday, October 8 is Columbus Day, and while not many offices observe the holiday, NYC public schools are closed, so some parents will likely take today off. Here’s some information on what’s closed today.

Government Offices and Sanitation
All government offices, including the Department of Motor Vehicles, and courts are closed.

There is no mail delivery today.

Alternate side parking is suspended, however all other parking regulations, including parking meters, are in effect.

There is no garbage, organics, or recycling collection on Monday. If Monday is your regular garbage or organics pick-up day, put these items out after 4pm today for collection beginning on Tuesday, October 9. If Monday is your regular recycling day, you must wait until next week to put out your recyclables for collection beginning on Monday, October 15.

Subways and Buses
Bus and subway service is on a regular schedule today. The Staten Island Ferry is also running on a normal weekday schedule.

Libraries
All branches of the Brooklyn Public Library will be closed on Monday, October 8 in observance of Columbus Day.
