Colton To Host Seminar On Preparing For Retirement On Thursday, April 30
Planning for retirement can be a dizzying maze of finances and paperwork.
That’s why Assemblyman William Colton is teaming up with the Russian-American Community Coalition (RACCNY) on Thursday, April 30, to host free retirement preparation seminar for community members who are ready to start thinking about taking the next step. The event will take place at 7pm at 29 Bay 25th Street.
Topics, presented by a panel of experts, will include when to start planning for retirement, finding appropriate health coverage as a retiree, taxes after retirement, and estate planning.
“Figuring out the right time to retire is not an easy decision,” said a spokesperson from RACCNY. “There are no hard and fast rules that define retirement. But we can all agree retirement is the withdrawal from a traditional lifestyle. Many people also view these years as an opportunity to semi-retire, and that usually means working in a more rewarding job; usually out of choice and not necessity.”
The final presentation, titled “Preparing for the Unexpected: What Baby Boomers Need To Know About Estate Planning,” will be lead by an attorney specializing in estates. Folks will learn how to draft a comprehensive estate and retirement plan — an essential skill in order to retire with peace of mind for one’s family and future.
“Estate planning is more than just writing a will. Done right, organizing your assets can help avoid family fights and prevent your family budget and a majority of your estate from going to the government later,” said a spokesperson for RACCNY.
Colton said he hopes the event will help his constituents better plan their retirement.
“This seminar will help people begin thinking about all these different factors that need to be considered when planning to retire,” said Colton. “It’s important that those hoping to retire receive ample information about retirement, such as health care coverage, financial knowledge, and estate planning. We need to enable people to make the best decisions for themselves and their families. I thank the Russian-American Community Coalition of New York for organizing this seminar, as well as all the experts who volunteered their time to speaking at this event.”
