Colton, Tong Call For More Temporary Platforms During N Line Repair

Starting January 18, N train riders are looking at some serious service interruptions as part of the MTA’s revamp of nine subway stations, and now pols are calling on the MTA to better accommodate local straphangers.

Assemblyman William Colton, District Leader Nancy Tong and their staff plan to collect signatures for a petition this afternoon at the N’s Kings Highway station at 5pm, demanding that the agency provide three more temporary platforms during the construction period.

Since all nine stations from 8th Avenue through 86th street will be out of commission, the MTA plans to set up temporary platforms at Bay Parkway and 8th Avenue to ease the burden on commuters. Colton is proposing additional platforms at 18th Avenue, Kings Highway,  and Avenue U, or alternatively, requesting that the N train be rerouted via the Q tracks. Finally, the assemblyman has proposed the MTA offer shuttle bus service until the project is complete.

While locals have long complained about the apocalyptic state of disrepair the N line has fallen into, it’s safe to say that their irritation has been overshadowed by the dread of the impending years-long service disruptions.

We reached out to the MTA for comment and a spokesperson told us the agency would respond to Colton directly.
