Colson Patisserie To Open New Sunset Park Cafe On 10th Anniversary
Colson Patisserie — Mayor Bill de Blasio’s favorite breakfast spot is celebrating its 10th anniversary by opening a larger cafe in Sunset Park.
The new space — designed by Costa Group, an Italian firm known for its Eataly work — is set to open in September. The 500-square-foot café, at 253 36th St., will feature more breakfast items on the menu such as oatmeal and other pastries. For lunch, Colson will offer soups, salads and sandwiches, topped with a selection of desserts like cookies and eclairs.
Park Slope has had its fair share of Colson’s delicious doughnuts, waffles, muffins, and apple turnovers since it opened in 2006. Last year, Colson signed a 10-year lease extension and underwent renovations to open up on Sept 21.
Since 2012, Colson has operated at Industry City (220 36th St.) with a small kitchen and was offering limited breakfast pastries, sandwiches, and desserts to its customers. When the new space opens, Colson will have more resources to provide more food selections, and the previous space will close.
Colson chef and owner Yonatan Israel told the Park Slope Stoop in 2015 that he planned to open up a larger kitchen, “to accommodate our growth for the next few years.” We wonder if Mayor de Blasio might make an appearance once Colson’s new home debuts soon. Stay tuned!
