Colonia Verde Shortlisted for James Beard Award In Best Restaurant Design In North America
Let’s hear it for Colonia Verde!
We all know the popular Latin-American inspired restaurant at 219 DeKalb Avenue (between Clermont Avenue and Adelphi Street) offers rave-worthy cuisine, but now even their decor and overall design is getting props from none other than the James Beard Awards.
“We are still pinching ourselves out of disbelief,” exclaimed owners Felipe, Tamy, Mac and Carolina on their Facebook page. “It’s just the push we need right now to rebuild and give life to [Colonia Verde] again! And a HUGE thank you to Matthew Maddy, our talented friend who built our place!!!”
The rebuilding they speak of is the ongoing renovations needed after a February 7 fire that damaged the interior. Colonia Verde is scheduled to reopen in mid-April, its award-nominated design intact.
From Thursday-Saturday, March 26-28, dedicated fans can also enjoy a sneak peek of the new-and-improved menu at a $55/seat pop-up dinner “celebration of friendship, community, rebirth and food” at Dig Inn NoMad in Manhattan (1178 Broadway).
As noted in DNAInfo, the menu will include “its signature grilled steak, and new dishes like an octopus al pastor, made with fire-roasted pineapple and red onion,” according to chef/co-owner Carolina Santos-Neves.
“Back in February, when Colonia Verde caught fire, Adam [Eskin, owner of Dig Inn] suggested we do a pop-up as a way to test out some new recipes and get a chance to gather around a table to celebrate our food, our friendship and the on-going support from our community,” Santos-Neves said.
Three cheers, guys! We look forward to toasting your triumphant return soon!
