CityParks Play: Offering Free Sports Activities To Thousands Of Kids Across NYC

Last week City Parks Foundation kicked off the CityParks Play program, providing sports instruction, coaching, and equipment free of charge to more than 12,000 kids at NYC parks in all five boroughs. The program is designed to help kids stay active and healthy durning the summer months while learning new sports and meeting new friends.

The program includes tennis, golf, track & field, soccer, and fitness for kids. Online registration for the programs is now closed but walk-ins are welcome and on-site registration is open at each park site (based on availability). See below for what’s being offered at Brooklyn area parks.

CityParks Tennis – CityParks’ Tennis program promotes physical fitness and builds self-confidence while providing free tennis instruction to kids in a fun, relaxed environment. Lessons are offered to kids (ages 6 to 16) at 38 parks across the city with free beginner lessons, tournaments, leagues, excellence programs and special events. Equipment is available to use free of charge for those who do not own a tennis racket, but sneakers are required.

The tennis program runs through August 13 and concludes with a tournament for beginners  at the Central Park Tennis Center and the BNP Paribas Aces Tournament for intermediate players at Flushing Meadows Park in August.
