Have a fun, joyous, and safe New Year’s Eve everybody! When you wake up tomorrow in 2014, here’s what you’ll need to know about what’s open, closed, or running on a different schedule:

Government Offices, Parking, and Sanitation

Government offices, including the Department of Motor Vehicles, are closed. Courts are also closed. There is no mail delivery.

Public schools are closed for winter break, and will reopen on Thursday, January 2.

On Wednesday, January 1, alternate side parking is suspended. You don’t need to pay parking meters. No stopping, no standing and no parking regulations are suspended except where those regulations are in effect seven days a week or at all times.

There is no garbage or recycling pick-up. If Wednesday is your regular garbage or recycling collection day, put your items out after 4pm Wednesday evening.

Subways and Buses

New York City subways and buses and the Staten Island railway will operate on a Sunday schedule (which means no B train), with longer waits on some bus routes on January 1. For NYE travel info, see this post.

Libraries

All branches of the Brooklyn Public Library will be closed on Wednesday, January 1.
