Ciné Barbès Monthly Film Series Returns October 20
Ciné Barbès, a monthly film series dedicated to showcasing underexposed, visually ambitious, and thought-provoking contemporary cinema, returns to Barbès (376 9th Street) this Sunday, and then every third Sunday of the month. Films screen at 5pm, and have a suggested donation of $5.

Sunday, October 20: Violeta Went to Heaven
An unconventional and mesmerizing biography of Violeta Parra, the legendary multifaceted singer, songwriter, and founder of the socially and politically committed nueva canción folk music movement.
Sunday, November 17: BAM150
A captivating history of the nation’s oldest performing arts center, which mirrors the evolution of performing arts in 20th century America. Screening followed by a Q&A with director Michael Sladek.
Sunday, December 15: After Tiller
Since the assassination of Dr. George Tiller in 2009, there are only four American doctors left who openly provide third-trimester abortions. After Tiller paints a complex, compassionate portrait of these physicians, who have become the new number-one targets of the anti-abortion movement.
Sunday, January 19: Musicwood
