CIA Traffic Update

This is the 19th installment in our ongoing effort to see that all businesses along Coney Island Avenue treat the street, the sidewalk, and, ultimately, their neighbors in a legal and safe manner. We had a glimmer of hope that this week that violations would change, with two reports from neighbors on the same day.

Neighbor alsivi got a response to an email he sent to the NYPD’s Commissioner’s Office, which said they would be taking the “appropriate action” in the matter.

That same day, neighbor Michael noticed: “No double parking (except for one ticketed van) and all the parked cars have meter slips displayed.”

But today, it’s back to the same old CIA–cars double parked, a sign blocking traffic, cars blocking the sidewalk.

If you feel that this is a problem, consider emailing Community Board 12 at bkcb12@gmail.com and the 66th Precinct at 66pctnypd@gmail.com.

One hopeful note is that we’ve heard the Department of Transportation will likely be looking at ways to improve the intersection of CIA at Cortelyou, which is not only made worse by the loss of a southbound lane due to all these obstructions, but is difficult for drivers to make turns through, and tricky to cross. We’ll keep you posted about that as we learn more.
