CIA Traffic Update

CIA Traffic Update

Week 15. If you reached out to Councilmember Mathieu Eugene’s office last week, you may have heard the same great news we did–that he intends to hold a public meeting with DOT sometime in the next few weeks at PS 139, the library, or a nearby location to discuss traffic calming issues along not just Coney Island Avenue, but also Cortelyou, where there is a possibility of installing traffic lights at both Westminster and Stratford.

As for CIA specifically, the Councilmember’s Legislative Director Jonah Rogoff tells us he’s been in contact with the 66th Precinct for over a year, and each time they’ve told him that “officers are being sent out to issue violations, but the situation never gets any better.”

He adds: “I will talk with the Councilmember and see if we can contact the Commissioner’s Office or Brooklyn South to address this issue.”

From the street, or from one neighbor’s bird’s eye view, Coney Island Avenue is still a mess. Any effort from the 66th clearly hasn’t helped solve the problem.

We’ll keep you posted about the date and time of the public meeting, and we hope you can come. At the very least, the DOT can help by working on the timing of the traffic light at the intersection of CIA and Cortelyou, possibly adding a left turn signal onto Cortelyou.
