Chipotle Coming to Bed Stuy Spring 2019, And Hiring
BEDFORD STUYVESANT/BUSHWICK — Chipotle is bringing their burritos and beer to the Bedford Stuyvesant area.
The new location at 774 Broadway between Marcus Garvey Blvd. and Elery street will be their fifteenth Brooklyn location, but first in Bedford Stuyvesant and Bushwick, which the restaurant borders. The eatery is scheduled to open mid-March, according to a company spokesperson, Erin Wolford.
Chipotle is nestled inside the 60,00 square foot warehouse which now houses BKLYN Commons, and a Starbucks — two newcomers to the area. Starbucks moved into the building a year ago signaling a change in the area post rezoning.
The restaurant replaces the decades-old Fat Albert Warehouse, a discount store which moved to the Bushwick side of the area in 2017 before ultimately shuttering. Fat Albert’s owner, Albert Srour, is the father of Bklyn Commons president Jack Srour, according to an Observer article, and they have owned the property through Brooklyn Lollipop Import & Export Corp. since 1986.

They’ll have to adjust their pay rate, however. According to the snagajob.com, they list the restaurant as paying $10.40 to $11.99 an hour.
New York City minimum rates changed to $15/hr. on Jan. 1. Chipotle’s spokesperson did not respond to questions about the wage amount.
