Checking Out The Water Play Area & More At Lakeside
Summer is now upon us! With warmer and longer days ahead, we have more activities to look forward to at Prospect Park this year. It’s time to break out swimwear because the water play area at Lakeside is officially open!
To help spread the word, Lakeside hosted a Mommy Bloggers event this past Tuesday to introduce the Toddler Tuesday program which will take place at the LeFrak Center from 9:30am to 12pm each Tuesday throughout this summer. The program, which is geared to toddlers ages two to five who are accompanied by their guardians or caregivers, will give participants a chance to enjoy an entertaining morning of skating, water play, and instructor-directed games and crafts. Special ticket prices are available for program participation, in addition to value pack offers.
Attendees to Tuesday’s event were also given a sneak peak into the LaFrak Center’s private events spaces. Children’s roller skating party packages include a private party room, skate/equipment rentals, skate time with a party coordinator, and food and beverages. Enhanced party packages add skate instruction, themed decorations, and goody bags. The three interconnected rooms can open into one grand room where the sky is the limit — weddings, baby showers, corporate, fundraising, and charity events, from casual to formal, you name it.
Examples of party set-ups showed how sports enthusiasts will love a sports-themed room!
Clowning around is permitted in a circus-themed room!
Bring your dancing shoes to a disco-themed room!
An impressive list of amenities include a full kitchen, catering, and menu selections, as well as seasonal activities, custom branding, and floor plans. Audio/visual equipment packages are also available.
Moms were treated to samples of the Bluestone cafe, which doesn’t serve your typical concession food. Chef Andy Seidel has created a pleasing menu that will satisfy both the health conscious and those seeking more traditional fare.
The Cajun fish sandwich, which can be served either fried or grilled (these sample portions were served fried).
The roasted green kale salad, served with olives, feta, grapes, and pretzel croutons, was light and healthy.
The pizza selections include cheese and tomato, a mushroom trio, and a pulled rotisserie chicken barbecue pizza.
The Bluestone recently acquired their liquor license and are serving beer and wine. Sometime in the very near future the green roof terrace will open, allowing guests to overlook the skating rink enjoy panoramic views of Prospect Park. There are also plans for hourly bike, paddle boats, and canoe rentals.
Annmarie Rizzi and 2-year-old daughter Valentina are beyond excited about the opening. Valentina really enjoyed splashing around in the water and watching the water spray from the fountain.
Shermin and her daughter Stevi have been anticipating the opening of the water play area and are loving it so far. Shermin, who has been visiting the facility regularly, thinks it’s a lovely addition to Prospect Park. “I love the playful kids music also,” she says of the music that can be heard in both the skating and water play areas.
Two adults per child permitted — adults without children will not be able to use the facility at this time. While they’re still making adjustments to the facility, they are open to feedback.
The water play area is open daily from 10am-7pm.
