Get a healthy dose of local art this weekend! From 11am to 5pm both Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18, neighborhood artists are opening their doors so that you can see some of the great work that artists in our community are doing.

Nearly 30 different artists from the Flatbush Artists will showcasing their work this weekend, and works range from poetry to portraiture to photography. Visitors will have the chance to both see and purchase art, as well as talk to the artists about a wide array of work – and see some them give live demonstrations.

“We have a lot of young artists joining the organization and showcasing their work this year,” says Flatbush Artists member CJ Segal-Isaacson. “It’s very exciting.” Segal-Isaacson will be displaying her jewelry work in her studio on Argyle Road.

One of our favorites is Christine Newman‘s pastel work, which is inspired by the botanical world. They focus on lesser known plants as well as off-season stages of development. She hopes to bring attention to the splendid, multifaceted plant kingdom hiding in plain sight. Her work has been featured in the Brooklyn Public Library’s Nature Up Close exhibit, as well as a solo show at the Kensington Library.
