Less than a day after cops released a new photo of the man wanted for trying to lure a 14-year-old girl on her way home from school, authorities dropped the charges after the suspect turned himself into police, according to the NYPD.

Cops say the suspect arrived Tuesday at the 61st Precinct, Sheepshead Bay’s station house, accompanied by an attorney. After a discussion with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, police dropped the charges and closed the case, according to the NYPD.

The police department referred further questions about the case to the DA’s office. We are waiting answers from prosecutors. However, the news site JP Updates reports the girl who was allegedly attacked asked police to not file charges.

According to JP Updates:

The man, who is 17 years-old, turned himself in with his attorney to detectives at the 61th [sic] Precinct and when he was interviewed, the boy didn’t cooperate with the detectives. The girl gave up her story and didn’t want police to file charges, the official said.
After the man turned himself into police, detectives re-interviewed the girl and she gave new details that she didn’t say originally. NYPD and the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office decided not to file any charges.

Cops reported the girl was attacked last week while walking home from school along East 7th Street, near Kings Highway. Authorities claimed the man grabbed the girl and tried to lead her away. He held onto her arm when she tried to pull away, and fled after she wrestled out of his grasp, cops said.

The NYPD sent out more than a half-dozen surveillance photographs of the suspect since the attack was reported. However, the one released Monday night was the first to clearly show the suspect’s face.

Update [February 24, 10:50am]: According to the DA’s office, police were unable to press charges because the girl did not cooperate with investigators.
