Celebratory Gunfire Rings in New Year in Flatbush

Here’s a video of a group in Flatbush firing off a gun to celebrate the new year, reported by Gothamist. Celebratory gunfire can and does kill people.

According to Slate, smaller bullets fired straight up into the air, such as those fired out of a 9mm handgun, “max out” at speeds between 150 and 250 feet per second, which likely isn’t fast enough to kill someone, but enough to deliver “a painful wallop.”
