Celebrating Eid al-Fitr With Kids In Brooklyn

The moon has set on the final night of Ramadan. Today, local Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of a month-long fast from food and drink. Traditionally, Eid al-Fitr is celebrated with prayers, lots of food, and gifts for kids — and this year is no exception.

While this year’s Eid al-Fitr falls during summer break, the inclusion of Islamic holidays in the DOE’s calendar means in the future, local students will get the day off from school. With this much to celebrate, this year’s Eid al-Fitr festivities are sure to be fun.

Check out some of these events for performances, games, and, of course, lots of food to celebrate the holiday:

Eid Ul-Fitr Celebration
Medgar Evers College Welcome Center, 1650 Bedford Avenue, Crown Heights

Admission: Free
The Medgar Evers College Student Government Association and the Muslim Student Association will be hosting this celebration bringing together students and the community to celebrate the end of Ramadan.

9th Annual Bay Ridge Arab-American Bazaar
Shore Road Park, 79th Street and Shore Road, Bay Ridge
Ages: All
When: Sunday, July 26, 1-7pm
Admission: Free
The popular Bay Ridge Arab-American Bazaar is back for it’s 9th year to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. Activities include music, dance, and food. While there, head over to BAC Folk Feet’s tent for free drumming workshops and a whirling dervish showcase.
