Celebrate Zakafest With Food, Music & More At The Cortelyou Greenmarket
This Sunday, May 10, bring your mom, your friends, your neighbors — bring anyone you want! — and head over to the Cortelyou Greenmarket for a celebration of Zakafest, a Haitian festival of agriculture and springtime.
The greenmarket, located on Cortelyou Road between Argyle and Rugby Roads, will be hosting numerous free activities throughout the day in honor of Zakafest.
Here’s the full roster of festivities:
- 10am-2pm: Learn about free health services and family events in the neighborhood with the Hatian-American Community Coalition and Brooklyn Public Libraries.
- 10-11am: Gardening workshop sponsored by the Brooklyn Urban Garden School (BUGS).
- 11-11:30am: Cooking demo with child chef Luis Ortega of the Food Networks’ Rachael vs. Guy: Kid Cook-Off!
- .12-12:30pm: Plant raffle and creative plant-centered family activities.
- 12-12:30pm: Drumming workshop/performance with the Haitian Roots music-makers of Samba Zao.
- 12:30-1pm: Neighborhood fame awarded to whoever brings or creates the most unique plant holder.
- 1pm-close: Live performance by Brooklyn’s rara band DjaRARA.
