Happy Winter Solstice, everyone! What is the winter solstice? It’s the day — TODAY — that is the shortest day of the year — and the longest night of the year, also known as the start of wintertime and the sun’s climb in our sky.

This is great news for everyone — whether you have seasonal affective disorder, love sunshine and flowers, or hate dressing in layers (although we’ve had a pretty mild winter thus far, knock on wood) — and what better way to celebrate than by surrounding yourself with an oasis of flowers and nature at Rockwell Place Community Garden (104 Rockwell Place).

Sitting alongside bustling Flatbush Avenue at the intersection with Lafayette Avenue, in the shadow of the BAM sign (and surrounded by wrought iron fencing, keeping people safe from cars), the garden will be hosting a bonfire, wine, soda, and treats for any community member who cares to visit TONIGHT between 5-9pm.
