Celebrate NYC Honey Week With Two Bee Events At The Gowanus Canal Conservancy

Learn a thing or two about our busy city bees during the upcoming NYC Honey Week, which runs September 8-14. With interesting events all over the city, we’re lucky to have a couple of good ones right here, thanks to the Gowanus Canal Conservancy:

Apiary Tour
Where: Gowanus Canal Conservancy, Salt Lot, 2 2nd Avenue
When: Wednesday, September 10, 10am
What: See how the hives are doing! Attendance will be limited, so first-come, first-served. Contact below for more information.
How much: Free, RSVP to Kimberly Rubin.

The Role Of Honeybees And Other Pollinators In Urban Areas
Where: FIND Home Furnishings, 43 9th Street
When: Wednesday, September 10, 6:30-8pm
What: Learn about the role of honeybees and other pollinators in our food systems from Tim O’Neal and Shelly Fank of BoroughBees. Conservancy volunteer beekeepers will discuss our thriving Gowanus hives, and Brooklyn Brewery will provide some beers.
How much: Free, with a suggested $5 donation at the door.

Also part of the week is the 4th annual Honey Fest on Saturday, September 13 from 11am-sunset– it’s a bit of a trip out to the Rockaways, but with art, food, music, film, kids’ arts and crafts, and a bee-product marketplace, all right at the beach, it seems like a fun way for the family to enjoy one last bit of summer!
