Celebrate Bayfest Next Sunday
The 18th annual Bayfest is hitting the streets of Sheepshead Bay this Sunday, May 17th. Bay Improvement Group, the festival’s organizer, is promising a bigger event than last year’s, and hopefully the weather will be more accommodating than 2008’s mid-day showers.
The completely free, all-day celebration of Sheepshead Bay kicks off at noon and features the badass musical stylings of “Legendary Lead Guitarist of Supergroup Vanilla Fudge Vince Martell“… also known as this guy:
(Yes, it’s the same joke I made last year. Sorry, but that guy’s look just throws me into fits of giggles every time I see it. That’s not to disparage him… he’s a fantastic performer and Bayfest will be a great show.)
Martell will be playing alongside Peg Pearl & Friends and Greg Bravo of Steam.
In addition to the music, other great entertainment is planned, including:
- Amusement rides, face painting, cartoon characters & arts ‘n’ crafts
- FDNY Fireboat Display
- Wildlife talks & demonstrations by organizations like the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, NY Aquarium & the Department of Environmental Conservation
- Sailing demonstrations and views of historic sailboats
- 50-50 Raffle
Be sure to bring your family out, because it’ll definitely be a fun Sunday.
Also, to those interested, BIG sent out a request for volunteers last month, and they may still be in need. If you’re interested, visit the BayFest website, email bayimpgrp@aol.com
