The Community Board 6 Transportation Committee unanimously approved the Department of Transportation‘s plan for Citi Bike expansion in the Park Slope and Gowanus neighborhoods, as well as Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, the Columbia Street Waterfront District, and Red Hook, according to The Brooklyn Paper.

The expansion will begin in 2016 with an expected completion by 2017. A detailed map of the proposed expansion is available here.

This is part of a citywide plan to add 139 Citi Bike docking stations throughout New York City. The Brooklyn Paper notes 62 of those stations will come to Brooklyn.

DNAinfo highlights notable locations for Citi Bike docking stations in our neighborhood, including the Park Slope Food Coop (782 Union Street between 6th and 7th Avenues), Whole Foods Market (214 3rd Street at 3rd Avenue), and both of Park Slope’s YMCA branches (361 15th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues, and 357 9th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues).

In addition, the DOT will be working with the Department of Parks and Recreation to finalize exact docking station placement on Prospect Park West and Bartel-Pritchard Square.

These will join our existing dock, located on Dean Street near 4th Avenue, which was installed in the first Citi Bike wave.
