The Department of Health closed down Catskill Bagel on Cortelyou Road yesterday, following a series of inspections this year that left the business with an ever higher number of violation points — 18 on 1/07 or Grade B, 30 on 1/28 and 39 on 2/20 or Grade C, to closed as of last night. Information on the findings of the most recent inspection that resulted in closing is not yet available online.

Catskill Bagel was last closed by the DOH in July 2011 with 69 violation points, and again in February 2012 with 45 violation points. At the time of the first closure, the owner blamed the closure on a plumbing problem, denying that they’d been closed by the DOH at all.

In the meantime you can get a dozen bagels at:

And you can sit down for a bagel at Cafe Madeline, Qathra, and Lark. That leaves George’s and Pablo’s as the only places in the neighborhood to get pancakes during the week.

Here’s hoping they reopen soon!
