Carnem Prime Steakhouse To Open Monday
It’s going to be a very meaty Monday, as a new steakhouse is primed to open on 5th Avenue next week.
Carnem Prime Steakhouse will open on May 18 at 318 5th Avenue, between 2nd and 3rd Streets, in the space that once held the restaurant Alta Voce. First announced back in February, the new restaurant will focus on USDA Prime Certified Angus beef from Pat LaFrieda and Master Purveyors, while also serving up seasonal seafood, pastas, and more.
According to owner Jacob Krumgalz, who most recently ran Blue Planet Grill in Manhattan, they’re hoping to provide a quality dining option that’s still warm and welcoming.
“Brooklyn has always had Peter Lugers, but there are few restaurants that are doing high quality steaks in a friendly neighborhood atmosphere,” he said in a release. “We want Carnem to be a place where you don’t need an expense account nor a special occasion to enjoy a beautiful piece of meat or fish.”
That’s not saying, of course, that it’s cheap — the menu, shown below, has a range of items, with steaks running between $24 for a 6oz. filet mignon to $90 for a 32oz. 28-day dry-aged rib eye for two; a whole branzino with brown butter, capers, garlic, lemon, parsley, and tomatoes is $28; beef stroganoff is $20; and there’s a cheeseburger and fries for $17.
The kitchen is led by chef David DiSalvo, a graduate of the French Culinary Institute who has worked at NYC restaurants Blaue Gans and Wallse, and in Southern California at West Steak and Seafood, where he earned his chops in the world of steak.
They’re still waiting on their liquor license, so to start it will be BYOB, but the cocktail menu looks pretty fun, developed by mixologist Artemio Vasquez, who has worked at PDT. The wine list will be made up mostly of bottles from American wineries.
Inside, there’s seating for 70 — including in the lower-level dining room, which looks out on the patio, where there will be seating for 10 during the warmer months.
Initially, they’ll be open nightly for dinner starting at 5pm, and then will add brunch service on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 11am. They’ll accept reservations by phone at 718-499-5600 and eventually on OpenTable.
Check out the menus below, and if you want to get a sneak peek, you can meet them this Sunday, May 17 — they’ll be participating in the Fabulous Fifth Avenue Fair.
